
Scoutmaster Duties and Responsibilities
Description: The Scoutmaster is appointed by the Troop Committee to be responsible for the program and image of Troop 211. The Scoutmaster is selected and rcruited by the troop committee and approved by the chartered organization representative. The Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters work directly with Scouts on rank advancement, skills training, and overall development of the scout. The Scoutmaster can be male or female and is at least 21 years old. The Scoutmaster must attend Scoutmaster Training in addition to Youth Protection Training within six months of registering with the troop.
Comments: We currently have a new Scoutmaster who has a scout active in the troop and has gone through the Cub Scout program. He is fully trained and has completed Wood Badge training.
Duties and Responsibilities of a Scoutmaster Include:
- Train and guide youth leaders.
- Work with other responsible adults to bring Scouting to boys.
- Use the methods of Scouting to achieve the aims of Scouting.
- Meet regularly with the Patrol Leaders Council to plan, train and coordinate troop activities.
- Attend all troop meetings or, when necessary, arrange for a qualified adult substitute.
- Attend all Troop Committee Meetings.
- Conduct periodic parents sessions to share the program and encourage parent participation and cooperation.
- Take part in annualk membership inventory and uniform inspection, charter review meeting and charter presentation.
- Conduct Scoutmaster Conferences for all rank advancements.
- Provide a systematic recruiting plan for new members and see that they are promptly registered.
- Delegate responsibilities to other adults and groups (assistants, committee) so theat they have a real part in troop operations.
- Supervise troop elections of Order of the Arrow.
- Enable each Scout to experience at least ten (10) days and nights of camping each year.
- Participate in District and Council activities and events.
- Build a strong program by usuing proven methods presented in Scouting literature.
- Conduct all activities under qualified adult leadership, safe conditions and the policies and procedures of Troop 211, the chartered organization and the Boy Scouts of America
